I am a member in the Hostel Association. I stayed in a hostel for the first time in London, England, when I had an early flight to catch and I wanted to be next to the train station. There were four beds in the room. One woman, in her 40's was from Australia. She decided to up and leave her life and work one day and travel. She stayed at hostels, did a little work in the countries she visited and simple explored the world on foot and by train. My other companion was a student from Asia on a sabbatical from school. She was also eager and excited about the world we live in. The fourth bed was still empty when I dosed off. But sometime in the middle of the night I heard rustling and in the morning another stranger slept under the covers as I quietly left.

At breakfast I sat with a couple (there are rooms for two as well) who, instead of suffering a mid life crisis at home, decided to get distracted across the ocean away from family and friends.

There are over 17 hostels in British Columbia, at around $15 per night. I recommend this type of lodging anytime.
