I had the pleasure of dining in this restaurant and I can say without hesitation,
expect good service along with delicious food. I really don't think anything on the
menu would not be satisfactory. Owner and head chef Charlie Abowd and his wife Karen
see to it, just like Charlie's parents Paul and Adele did when they opened the place
in 1978.
The most difficult thing here is what to choose from a menu that serves Lamb, Baked
Crab Racquel en Croute and Lobster Jeremiah among its over one hundred menu items.
The wine list has over 170 choices.
The restaurant is housed in an old Victorian-style building and today's decor,
thanks to the expertise of Karen, who is a interior designer by profession, matches
that era in colors and furnishing.
The dining room can seat 78, yet maintains an intimacy. During good weather, an
outdoor veranda seats 30 more. The mansarded-roofed building has been standing since
1864. In the late 1800's Nevada's Attorney General lived in it. And then Supreme
Court Justice, Michael A. Murphy.
It's use as a restaurant allows us to get a glimpse of the past and to be comforted
with good food at the same time.
The restaurant is only 30 minutes from downtown Reno and worth every minute of the
trip.
Reservations are recommended.
