Scotland is located in the northern part of the island of Great Britain. It is a rugged chunk of land, deeply gashed with
inlets from the sea and bordered with craggy cliffs. Parts of the landscape are painted with purple heather and rolling
austere valleys that clutch at your heart and send you racing for a harlequin romance, particularly when a
foreboding castle appears on a hill.
The people of Scotland's villages and small communities have one thing in common and it's not
their manner or their dialect, it's their humble spirit. They work on their crofts (small farms) and
supplement their income by taking on outside jobs. Some open their homes to tourists, selling
cheese and smoked fish and some work as guides or at the Scotch whiskey distillery.
