Anchorage

Most visitors to Alaska wisely include Anchorage in their itinerary. It is the biggest city in the state and surprisingly sophisticated with an outstanding arts and theatre program, talented musicians in the symphony orchestra and a barbershop quartet to rival any barbershop quartet anywhere. Located on the south coast, the temperature is generally milder than the rest of the state.

Residents of Anchorage are a hearty bunch, having survived in 1964, the biggest quake ever recorded in North America: 9.2 on the Richter Scale.
