Stockholm
Stockholm is the largest city in Sweden with a population of about 750,000. Its location on 20
islands creates a delightful layout with many bridges throughout the city. Most of the
government offices are located in Stockholm as well as some of the country's many museums,
such as the Swedish Museum of Natural History and the National Maritime Museum.
Stockholm was established in the mid-13th century, but didn't become a prominent cultural center until the
17th century. Stockholm is the major sea port of Sweden and shipbuilding is an important
economic industry. Tourists are drawn to the city's creative grid and its ancient palaces and
stone-walled churches.
