EUROPCAR LAUNCHES CRUISE AND DRIVE
Global Car Rental Company Offers Cruise Travelers First-of-its-Kind Product
Europcar, the largest international car rental company of European origin, today announced the
arrival of Cruise and Drive, the travel industry's first product that offers cruise passengers a car
rental option for destination excursions at ports-of-call.
"We received welcoming praise from travel agents and cruise lines during ASTA's 2001 Cruise
Fest Conference in Vancouver," said Ian Stazicker, director of travel industry and partnership
sales. With Europcar's international fleet already in-place, the Cruise and Drive program
immediately benefits the travel community, providing cruise passengers with more shore
excursion options to ensure a unique cruise experience.
Travelers or their travel professionals can book Europcar if there is an existing cruise itinerary or
reserve a vehicle right after the initial cruise booking.
"Research indicates that more than 40 percent of cruise passengers do not take advantage of
organized shore excursions," said Stazicker. "By offering travelers the freedom to visit
destinations such as the ruins of Greece or exploring the hidden beaches along the Mexican
Riviera, Europcar's Cruise and Drive program supports the travel industry's efforts to offer a
variety of international experiences for passengers to enjoy."
Europcar's Cruise and Drive program links international cruises to 18 European countries, plus
Mexico. The company plans to expand the program by the end of 2001 to include other popular
cruise destinations such as the Caribbean and the South Pacific, among others. Europcar
locations are strategically positioned near ports-of-call to efficiently process transactions so
passengers can get on
their way without delay. The transaction is an easy three-step process that involves Europcar
representatives meeting passengers at the dock upon arrival, signing the necessary rental
agreement and handing the keys to the customer. Upon return, the vehicle will be picked up by a
Europcar representative at the dock.
Reservations for Cruise and Drive can only be made by calling Europcar's Reservation and
Information Center toll-free at 1-877-940-6900. The product's daily rates include a free mileage
allowance, insurance and local taxes, as well as delivery and collection of the vehicle.
