A Toast to Meadowood Napa Valley
California Travel News ( Press Release )
Where Every Bottle of Wine in the Cellar
Is Now Available By-The-Glass
Napa Valley, California, June 2003: When a guest in The Restaurant at Meadowood asks, "What
wines do you have by the glass?", the answer is an enthusiastic "Anything on the list!"
At Meadowood, located in the heart of America's preeminent wine region, guests may now
choose to sample a glass from the property''s extensive Napa-centric wine collection without
having to commit to an entire bottle.
The program was conceived by John Thoreen, Director of The Wine Center at Meadowood. The
wine pour is 6 oz. and the price for a glass is one-quarter of the bottle price. For bottles priced
over $100, there is a two-glass minimum.
With more than 225 Napa Valley wineries represented and over 400 wines on the list, The
Restaurant becomes a prime destination for wine lovers wanting to explore the broadest
representation of Napa Valley wines in one location. Many wines on the list are not readily
available to the public, which makes this the perfect place to experience the best the region has to
offer. Additionally, numerous wines in the collection have very limited production, so the
inventory changes frequently.
Meadowood keeps meticulous records for every bottle that is opened and each is gassed and
stored with proper climate control to ensure quality and flavor retention. Additionally, the service
staff consults the list of open bottles frequently and communicates availability to the guests.
"Just the other night," says Thoreen, "a couple dining in The Restaurant took the spirit of the
program to a new level! To create the ultimate wine experience to complement a five-course
tasting menu, their wine-by-the-glass selections included Far Niente Chardonnay, Du Mol Pinot
Noir, and Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon, among others. Their total wine bill came to
$700. But, if they'd bought a full bottle of each the total would have been closer to $1500. A
few tables away, on learning a bottle of Screaming Eagle was open, two other guests jumped at
the opportunity to add this wine to their list of by-the-glass selections for the evening."
