Grand Teton Lodge Achieves Certification
Wyoming Travel News ( Press Release )
Grand Teton Lodge Company Becomes One of the First Wyoming Tourism Companies to
Achieve Iso 14001 Certification for its Environmental
Management System
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, USA: June 23, 2003: Grand Teton Lodge
Company (GTLC), operator of lodging, restaurants and activities in Grand
Teton National Park, has received ISO 14001 certification from the
International Organization for Standardization for its Environmental
Management System (EMS). The certification process was confirmed by the
independent auditing firm National Quality Assurance USA, and the notice
of certification was issued May 19, 2003.
GTLC is one of the first ISO 14001 fully certified tourism companies in
Wyoming and one of the few national park concessioners to achieve this
distinction. In order to be ISO 14001 certified, a company must have an
EMS in place and integrated into all of its facilities, systems and
programs. Key components include establishing an environmental policy,
planning, implementation and operation of an ongoing program and an
ongoing commitment to management review, corrective action and continual
improvement.
Key values GTLC has identified include renewable energy; elimination of
waste; protection of wildlife habitat and environmental education. In
its EMS, the company focuses on eight areas: education, policy and
communication; infrastructure improvements; energy and water;
janitorial; land use; compliance; materials use and fuel management.
"Because we are entrusted as stewards of public lands within Grand Teton
National Park, we have identified as a core mission of the organization
to preserve and protect the environment of the park and to inspire our
employees and visitors to sustain that natural environment," said John
Rutter, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Grand Teton
Lodge Company. "ISO certification is something all members of our
company can point to as a validation of these environmental goals we
have set."
Within Grand Teton National Park, Grand Teton Lodge Company manages
lodging, restaurants, tours and activities at Jackson Lake Lodge, Jenny
Lake Lodge and Colter Bay Village as well as the Jackson Hole Golf &
Tennis Club in Jackson, Wyo., just outside the park.
