In recent Olympics, it is estimated that 50 percent of the overall benefits accrued to tourism. It is anticipated that the Vancouver-Whistler Games will not only meet this target but exceed it, with an unprecedented major tourism strategy in place leading up to the Games.

During Calgary's Olympic year, tourism grew by 12 per cent, augmented by an average annual growth of 3.25 per cent in the five years following the Olympics.
