THE ISLANDS

3. Spring Bay Inn on Orcas Island - All Inclusive Package
Spring Bay Inn on Orcas Island offers an all-inclusive group package. Each day includes

4. Penn Cove Mussel Festival - Coupeville on Whidbey Island
The Penn Cove Mussel Festival serves up some fun with fine food. The festival emphasizes the
only weekend of the year when fabulous shellfish is available in the streets of Coupeville
along with strolling musicians and lots of opportunities for grown-ups to do wacky stuff;
scavenger hunts (for grown-ups only), get your picture taken as a mussel, ride the Mussel
Shuttle, hang out at the Beer Garden or take a boat ride through the Mussel Farm with
underwater camera aboard. A Mussel Chowder contest, in which all restaurants in town
compete against each other is always a favorite. Festival attendees purchase ballots for $5
with 10 to 12 chowders to taste and rate. Always the first weekend in March. (March 6-7,
2004).

5. B&B Tour & Taste - Whidbey Island
Country Inns and B&Bs are famous for their food and their decor.
Here is a chance to get a glimpse of these places and taste & collect some of their "secret
recipes." The B & B Tour and Taste is a one day self-guided tour of Bed and Breakfast Inns
on Whidbey island.
On the first Sunday of December each year these special places decorate for the holidays,
cook up a special treat, and open their doors to the public.
Tickets are $15 and include a map with directions to the participating accommodations and
a cook book cover. As they tour the participating B&Bs, Country Inns, and Guest Cottages,
guests can sample a holiday or house specialty food item and collect the recipe page for
their "cook book."
The tour takes between three and five hours depending on the location of the participating
accommodations.
It is a popular event, with a limited number of tickets available, so advance reservations are
suggested.

6. Langley Mystery Weekend - Whidbey Island
"The "Mystery" is a two-day interactive play which takes place all over the little town. It is
written by local authors and involves live local actors roaming the streets as well as
additional "suspects" including the mayor, the police chief, shop keepers, the librarian, and
basically the whole town. It is a lot of fun for the town and for participants of all ages. It
started as a way for Islanders to relieve winter "rock fever" (a restlessness known in snowy
areas as "cabin fever"). Locals invited their off-island friends to participate and the event
has grown to be popular with visitors from throughout the region.
Participants pick up mystery play packets at the Visitor Center. Cost is $2 per entry.

KITSAP AND OLYMPIC PENINSULA

Sekiu Winter Salmon Derby
Only $20 USD buys a derby ticket which gives the angler two days of fishing, a derby cap and
BBQ lunch on the Saturday afternoon. First prize is $1000, 2nd prize $500, 3rd prize is
$300, 4th prize $200 and 5th prize is $100. There is also a $100 prize for the largest
seabass (black/blue rockfish only). Weigh-in is at Olson's Resort, February 14-15th, 2004

9. Bainbridge Island Studio Tours
Visit Bainbridge Island for Holiday shopping at the annual Winter Studio Tour. Enjoy the work
of 55 artists in community halls and home studios. Arrive by ferry, bring your car and plan
on spending the night at one of many B&B''s.
The ambience of Bainbridge Island has attracted many fine artists and this juried tour offers
a wide variety of media fine wood furniture, jewelry, textiles, pottery, glass, paintings,
garden art, fabric, and photography.
The studio tour takes place on December 5-6-7, 2003.

14. Year-Round Camp Cabins
Folks who like their escape into the woods but aren't too fond of tent camping swear by
camp cabins. Snohomish County Parks recently opened four year-round cabins, within
walking distance of Flowing Lake, that have nearly all the comforts of home. All have
covered porches, electricity, heat, beds, picnic tables and fire grills. The heated restrooms
with showers are just steps away. What these cabins lack in creature luxuries they more
than make up for with surround-sound tranquility and right-there access to the outdoors.
