Hawaii: a Special Place
Waikiki Travel Tale
By Lorry Patton
Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic, but no matter how many times I've been to Hawaii,
whenever I hear the music of the islands, I long to be back. The mellowing songs are playing
right now as I write this column. I can almost see the palm trees fluttering in the trade winds,
the sun's rays bursting through the clouds after a tremendous shower; I can almost see the
children shaping words of welcome with their bodies, their hands and their gentle smiles. I can
almost hear the pounding surf of the Blue Pacific and I can almost smell the fragrant flowers.
I received the CD last night at a dinner party for travel journalists. It was hosted by Oahu
Visitors Bureau. They were in Vancouver, Canada, to remind us that Hawaii is a special place.
Their message is: "Come to Hawaii and share in the warmth of the Aloha spirit. Come to Hawaii
to rejuvenate, to restore, to revitalize ... ".
I agree that Hawaii is a special place and if I could click my heels and wish myself somewhere
that would melt my heart and ease my mind, I would open my eyes on the shores of Hawaii.
But most likely my next visit to paradise, and yours, will be arranged in a more conventional
style. So, you and I had better visit our Hawaii pages for the latest news, events and special
holiday packages.
