Long Island Highlights
Long Island Travel Tip
Long Island is one of the "Family Islands" or "Out Islands", untouched by the majority of the million-plus visitors that alight each year on The Bahamas' popular capital city of Nassau in New Providence, or the port cities of Freeport and Lucaya on Grand Bahamas Island to engage in a shopping spree at flourishing international markets, bazaars and duty-free shops.
Long Island is a place where a visitor can hike for miles and not see a store, where a visitor who loves solitude can rejuvenate in privacy or engage in activities away from the crowds.
Activities include swimming, snorkeling, big-game fishing, boating, scuba diving and exploring the numerous caves on the island, once the homes of the Lucayan Indians and the secret hideaway places of marauding pirates centuries ago.
Highlights include the ruins of Adderley's cotton plantation in Stella Maris and the old Anglican and Roman Catholic church in Clarence Town.
