Shopping in Ecuador
Galapagos Travel Tip
Since September, 2000, Ecuador has adopted the US dollar as its currency
and the old sucre is no longer accepted. Some shops on Santa Cruz
accept MasterCard, a few Visas, almost none accept American Express. Generally, shopping is
not a priority on the islands, however, it's nice to have cash in case you find something you like.
There are a few shops geared to tourists on Santa Cruz, however, it's best to do your shopping in
Quito. The colors of the blankets, pillow covers and hammocks are brilliant and beautifully
crafted.
