Getting to Redwoods National Park
Crescent City Travel Tip
by Lorry Patton
Highway 101 is a scenic highway that travels along United State's western coastline through
Washington, Oregon and California.. Redwood National Park is located on Highway 101 in
northern California just south of the Oregon/California state line. The park's headquarters are located in the
small town of Crescent City, about 25 miles south of the Oregon/California border. During the
winter months, the best route when driving is along the 101 coast highway coming south from
Portland ( 330 miles ) or north from San Francisco (320 miles). There is an airport 3 miles from
Crescent City -- Jack McNamara Field Airport -- and airports in Eureka, also on 101, 85 miles
south, if you aren't keen on driving.
We have also traveled on 199 from Grants Pass, a beautiful adventure, but I wouldn't
recommend it in the winter. 299 from Redding (180 miles) is another wonderful option.
