Gettng Around the Big Island
The Big Island Travel Tip
Getting around the Big Island is easy - basically, one major highway runs from one end
of the
island to the other, with a few well marked detours to interesting sights.
The diverse climate of the Big Island has developed a scenic and ever-changing landscape, from
jungle-like humid forests and sprawling cowboy ranches (over 300), to smoldering volcanic
rocks and cactus-strewn deserts. Besides this incredible natural and unique beauty, particularly at
the Volcanic Center, small towns beckon invitingly with museums, gift shops, craft markets, and
plenty of good eating places. The best way to see and visit the many attractions of this island is
in a car, so rent one from a major car rental kiosk located at the airport or at your hotel and
explore the island at your leisure.
