Castaway Island
Mamanuca Islands Travel Tip
Castaway Island (Qalito Island) is 174 acres of lush tropical greenery, cut through with hiking
paths, ringed with sandy beaches, and inhabited with friendly Fijian people. A private resort, it's
big enough to create an atmosphere of romantic privacy, yet the attentive and friendly staff is
there whenever you need them. Just 20 miles west of the Nadi International Airport on Viti Levu,
its easy access by boat or aircraft, well-organized programs and beautiful beaches make it
extremely popular with visitors.
Castaway maybe, but hungry never. The morning buffet includes Fiji's tropical fruits and juices,
hot meals and snacks all the day. Evening meals feature freshly caught seafood, and home-made
breads served outdoors. Imagine sipping a fine wine beneath the stars, lulled by soft lapping
water and heavenly music and you'll wish your really were a castaway.
Every Monday night, get ready for a feast Fijian style. Called Lovo, the festivities begin at 6:pm
with traditional song and dance. Saturdays are for American Fijian rendition of a Texas style
barbeque.
Cocktails parties are held every Wednesday night from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This is where you
get to meet your host, resort manager Garry Snodgrass.
Activities on the island include a children's program, sailing around in a catamaran, viewing
coral through a glass-bottom boat, diving, parasailing and game fishing.
