Get off the fast track in Grays Harbor County
If you're looking for a pristine outdoor experience just a little off the Seattle fast track, Grays
Harbor County's your place.
Located just 90 miles from the Seatac airport, Grays Harbor offers easy access to one of only
three temperate rainforests in the world.
Whether you're interested in taking an athletic hike through Colonel Bob Wilderness area,
or sitting in your private, fireplace equipped cottage overlooking crystal clear Lake Quinault,
Grays Harbor is the portal to your escape from the big city rush.
While you're taking in the lush, moss covered forest you may encounter the World's largest
Sitka Spruce tree or Washington State's largest tree, a Western Red Cedar.
Visit the powerful Pacific Ocean and a working fishing village. Watch whales frolic off the
coastline as they migrate up to the great feeding grounds of Alaska's Bering Sea. Take a tour of
Quinault Pride, the seafood packing plant owned and operated by the Quinault Indian Nation at
Taholah, or the family owned and operated Brady's oyster farm where the common westcoast
practice of "suspended culture" farming was originated.
Take a three-hour tour of the Chehalis River via The Tall Ship Lady Washington, and don't
forget to stop for lunch at Montesano's Savory Faire touted in Northwest Best Places for its
quaint atmosphere, its hearty coffee, it's rich homemade soups and its delectable fresh baked
breads,
desserts and pastries. Mom couldn't do any better!
Make Grays Harbor the focus of your Washington State vacation or include it as one "can't
miss" corner of an Olympic Peninsula tour. Include the likes of the historic mill-town of Port
Gamble, the Victorian themed waterfront community of Port Townsend, the Olympic National
Game Farm (originally known as the Disney Animal Farm), glacier carved Lake Crescent, the
Makah Indian Museum, and of course historic Lake Quinault Lodge, the Quinault Fish Hatchery,
the Ocean Shores Interpretive Center, and the Westport Maritime Museum.
Hiking, biking, bird watching, fishing, hunting, beach-combing, shopping, dining and just
plain relaxing. Grays Harbor has it all!
